Are you basing your decision on the sake of the puppies ? or your pocketbook?
If you breed with the mother and puppies in mind there is NO money to be made.
Pre-breeding health tests :
screening for Hip Displaysia, Genetic Eye defects, thyroid abnormalities, brucellosis testing, mycoplasma testing, etc.
Pre-natal care :
a physical examination of the mom, ovulation tests, possible artificial inseminations, extra amounts of a PREMIUM brand of Puppy Formula dog food, an ultra-sound to make sure the breeding took and there are no problems arising and a pre-whelp X-ray to give an approximate 'head count' (in case of problems during whelping).
Puppy Care & Expenses :
a clean, dry whelping area (whelping box), all the whelping nessecities (for those 'just in case' times), LOTS of extra cleaning & washing, LOTS and LOTS of your time to give to the pups for proper socialization & screening your potential puppy buyers, puppy vet checks & vaccines.
YES - you want your children to 'experience the miracle of birth'.
YES - your dog is THE BEST dog you ever had
YES - all of your friends and relatives want a puppy from YOUR dog
( they say that now but ..... when the time comes .... )
YES - your dog has registration papers and you "paid alot of money" for her/him.
Do these reasons make your dog have "the right qualities" to pass on to their puppies?
